March 23, 2024

Since we last spoke, there has been a lot going on that has distracted me from my blog posts on this site. Honestly, the union strikes last year , and Larry's health have slowed the growth of the band. Not that anything or anyone is to blame, it is just that situations have arisen to distract me from my focus and our financial ability to release more songs at this time. I still believe in this music, so will need to find better resources than what I currently have.  So, if anyone is interestested, let me give you a heads up of what Larry and I have been up to these past months.

Something interesting happened after the release of “Sometimes…”  A friend and colleague of mine, Matt Temple, heard the song, liked it, and then sent me some of his instrumental music. Matts musical style is much different to my own style - his has a lot more edge to it. But he balances the edginess with soaring rapturous themes. I was captivated by the first one I heard called “Tyranny,” and it's dark themes and other worldly sound. THere was something about it that captivated me. Maybe because it was so different from my writing style and something inside me was searching for another ways to express myself through words and music. Matt doesn't like to write lyrics or want to sing much. He was looking for someone who could do both and be able to work with him and his unique style. We just clicked. Funny, we've known each other for years, but neither of us was aware of the other's musical talent.

Matt's music presented me with a challenge I hadn't faced much before. They are mostly instrumentals and are not composed with lyrics in mind. My challenge was to find where I could place lyrics, where I could fit them in and still make some sort of musical sense, and write words that fit both the tone of the music and fit into the framework I had constructed. It was amazingly easy. Not simple, but the more I listened to the rhythms, melodies and themes, the words would dance down from poetry heaven and meld into the structure of the song. Like magic!

So Matt and I have been working on songs together since last summer and are continuing to do so. We don't have a band name yet, though I have ideas, and we are not close to releasing anything just yet, but I will let everyone know when I do.

Also last summer, Larry was diagnosed with kidney cancer. We kept it quiet so not to worry about it but eventually had his left kidney removed in August. He's much better now, thank you very much, and no signs of the cancer spreading. I'm hoping he is in the clear. But the surgery left him a bit more fragile. He's doing his best to get stronger and hopefully back to making music again soon.

This coming Friday I am having knee-repalcement surgery on my painful left knee. Two years of near constant pain will come to a climax in one week, then hopefully decline into nothing and I'll feel like me again. I miss hiking, dancing and strolling my favorite journeys. So looking forward to being pain free again.

Three days after my surgery - April 1st - JESTER DAY!!! - I retire from the Sound Industry. Seems the Universe wants this because I can see no other choice that makes sense. And it does make sense… in a weird way. There are few shows in post right now and they are mostly crewed. The industry probably won't bounce back until the fall. So retiring, and it's pension and Social Security benefits will keep me afloat till I can both establish my art, writing and the music and till the sound work comes back. I'm ready for any challenge that comes. It's going to be fun!

SOMETIMES...

Our newest track, "Sometimes..." is now available via our website + the other usual sources - Spotify, Apple Music, etc. "Sometimes..." is, quite simply,  a musical trip  - a semi-psychedelic journey into our inner realms. With the release of  "Sometimes..." to our musical catalog, regular listeners should begin to get a sense of where Karmic Jesters is going musically. You may start to recognize we have a number of different styles but they tend to fall into two main categories - the more comic and fun "Jester" music, and the deeper and more adventurous "Karmic" tunes. "Sometimes..." is our most "Karmic" song to date.

We are trying to make music that is "experiential" - songs that take you on a sonic journey into the world of mind... and possibly beyond. To take better advantage of the the mix and more fully enjoy the musical experience, we recommend you listen in a quiet room, lights low (or off), and listen with a good pair of headphones or earbuds, or a great sound system (be sure to place yourself in the center, in balance with the right and left speakers). Then simply close your eyes, hit play, and let the music take you away.

I can't guarantee what will happen next. The experience will be different for everyone. I only know what listening to "Sometimes..." in this manner does for me. I never get tired of the experience. Funny, I don't even recognize my own voice singing. I often feel transported (to another place and time?), and have beautiful creative thoughts and visions.

Try it and let us know. Larry and I are always interested in what other listeners experience in our music. So please, give us a shout via email at karmicjesters@gmail.com.

Thanks for listening! In Joy!

THE MOON IS UP!

In celebration of Earth Day on Saturday 4/22, We are releasing our latest single "Man in the Moon." This little ditty is probably our most conventional song to date. But don't let this happy, upbeat tune fool you. More than our previous songs, Man in the Moon has something to say. I won't tell you what he has to say (I never want to spoil a good surprise), I'll let the ol' Moon speak for himself. But I warn ya, he sounds a little bit pissed. I think he's envious of us here on our beautiful blue planet and is upset we seem to be taking her for granted.

And he wants to know "Why?"

So as we move into this Earth Day weekend (and the days and weeks and years to follow) let's pay a bit more attention to how we treat our lovely planet Earth. Look after her better (and each other while we're at it) and treat Mother Gaia with the love and respect she deserves. She is the only home we have. And remember - "You never know what you've lost until it ain't found."

Enjoy the song. Enjoy life. Take care of the planet so our children and grandchildren can enjoy their lives too.

Love & Peace...

Happy Birthday to US! Yes, Karmic Jesters is officially 1 year old today (though unofficially we are a wee bit older).  And as we celebrate what is traditionally "April Fools Day" - We have renamed this wonderfully odd holiday "Jester Day!" In celebration of Fools, Jesters, and all around Weird People Everywhere we are releasing another silly song - "Stick it Up Baby!" Think of this song as an ode to love... and all the frustration that sometimes comes with being with someone you love.  If you've perused our website before you might recognize the tune. "Stick it Up Baby" was the musical foundation for "Stick it Up Putin" - Our first official song released one year ago on April 1st, 2022. That's right - we ripped ourselves off! How Jesterly of us don't you think? For the present we have removed "Stick it Up Putin" from the site, but I have a feeling it will make a return in the near future (though it is a song I would love to permanently retire - as soon as Teeny Weenie Peenie Vladdy retires or is removed from office).  In the "Mean Time" feel free to dedicate "Stick it up Baby" to your person of choice. Oh yeah!

Hey all! Welcome to Karmic Jesters - the 2023 Edition. Sometimes "No news is good news...?" Nah, not this time. We have no news... and that to me is not good. Okay, maybe we have news but not the kind of news we want to give you. We are planning to release more music soon but can't tell you when. Can't cause we don't know yet. What I'm finding is that there are a lot of expectations when you release music these days... especially when you're an independent artist like we are. The music listening public seems to want something to look at when they listen to songs. And I would like to provide that for every song we release but the reality is we can't yet afford to create the videos I want to make - and I hate to compromise my vision (I'm a bit stubborn that way). But, I may need to.

Personally, I wish we could get away with releasing music without needing any imagery or video support. I believe our music to be experiential  - meaning songs that tell a story and that if you just close your eyes and listen, the audio experience will paint their own pictures and movies in your mind. That's our goal anyway.

I have recently added a few more curiosities and thoughts in "The Deep End." Check them out.

This year promises to be an exciting year for all of us. We hope to release more than just music. Karmic Jesters was never meant to be just a band - it was meant to be a source of entertainment using all types of different mediums. The music will remain our #1 medium, but hopefully you'll enjoy the other forms of entertainment (and weirdness) that we plan to share.

So please be patient with us as we figure this all out. We are learning on the fly how to navigate this wild and whacky world of the Web. But rest assured, it will be worth it.

The best is yet to come... and I promise - THIS year!

And pleas stay in touch. Larry and I would love to hear from you all. Tell us if you like or dislike what you hear. What kind of music moves you? What are your thoughts about the songs? You can reach us at :

www.KarmicJesters@gmail.com

So don't be shy.

Have a fantastic year Everyone!!!

Hey Kids! TRICK or TREAT!!! - We play the tricks and you get the treats!

We just dropped another single, this one just in time for my BIRTHDAY on Monday - otherwise known as HALLOWEEEEEEEN! Yep. It all makes since now, right?

Our new little ditty is a bit of a departure from our previous more tongue in cheek tunes.

"I Call Her Name" is darker and edgier, and hopefully SPOOOOOOKIER. The story, set to music, is about a man who can't seem to get the attention of the woman of his dreams.

So he follows her....  (OOOOOOOOOhhhhhhh SCARY!)

I won't tell you more as I don't want to ruin it for you. Have a listen... maybe a few listens... and let us know what you think.

You can always reach us at KarmicJesters@gmail.com  -  Or on our Facebook site.

Just search for us. We aren't hard to find.

Enjoy the song and HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!

April 1st, 2022 - or as we call it - KARMIC JESTER DAY!!!

We are officially launching the band today. No fooling! Everything before today was merely a rumor - a mere figment of our collective imaginations. It's been a loooooong time coming but we are finally here. Our new song "Stick It Up Putin" is on our Music Page, so click on over there and have a listen. It's free, so be our guest and download it and share it with whomever you like. We're not in it for the money... at least not yet. But at some point we will need to start paying the bills.

New logo graphics and artwork are also on the way. Just a few tweaks away.

Please let us know what you think. I'll try to be better at responding. My hope is that this is the true beginning of a fun journey for all of us.

Enjoy and keep smiling! - T

Happy 2022!!!

Happy 2022 fellow Jesters! And what a glorious year this can be… if each of us wants it to be. I’ve found in my life that attitude is not necessarily everything, but having a good one sure helps a lot. So starting the year with a positive mental attitude with clear optimistic goals is a good way to begin. It’s the following through consistently that can be difficult.

My optimistic goal for this year is to release a bunch of music for you all. I know, I know… I’ve been promising that for a while. But I’m pretty sure this time it’s going to happen. And soon. The music for the first album is ready. The hold up lately is getting some of the marketing stuff together. Yes, that stuff. Logos, and album cover designs and marketing plans, etc… what I call the boring stuff (though the artwork is pretty exciting). But since I’m new to this world of independent music marketing (no record company as of yet), my learning curve is long and slow.

I’m very excited about the music Larry and I and the rest of our bandmates have created. Should be a fun ride for you. Hopefully the album will give you an idea of who we are musically, and where we are headed. I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to spoil anything. But the few people (Guinee Pigs?) I’ve tested it on have given some pretty positive reactions (unless they were just being polite).

As we move forward, I promise to be more in touch with everyone. After all, this is not just my journey, or even the band’s journey - it’s all of our journey (and no, we don’t sound like Journey). I’m looking forward to the feedback from you (please be kind and constructive) and developing a Karmic Jester community. Let’s have fun, open our minds and hearts and see where this journey takes us. You never know, together we might just change the world!

My heartfelt love to you all. Have a GREAT 2022!!!

A funny thing happened on the way to the album release....

Well, not too funny. The world basically shutting down because of a pandemic combined with Larry's physical ailments slowing us down is not something to laugh about... but we try to anyway. These distractions have caused me to neglect this website and blog for way too long. The good news is we're close to finishing the album and in the process of getting all of the graphics, logos, marketing plans etc. designed, created and implemented. Let me tell you - it's tough making a musically ambitious album from nothing and trying to finance and market it yourself. We are doing our best, but I guarantee it will have been worth it... to somebody... hopefully. My present goal is to release "retro-spective" sometime in early spring 2022. We plan to release a few singles and teasers till then so keep an eye and ear out for them. And please bear with me - I've never done this before. This is a crazy new world for me - creating, releasing and marketing a rock album. I'm making a lot of mistakes along the way and am trying to learn from each one. I want this experience to be wonderful for everyone who invests their time and money into it. The one thing I am sure of is the music. I love it... and I think many of you will too. Jester fans... this is my dream come true. Thank you for helping me realize it.

Let the games begin!

Hey look - We got some music up!

It's about frickin' time!

Yeah, we've been threatening for a while, but finally got our first song up for the world to listen to. "Momma was a Beatle" was one of the first songs Larry and I wrote together and is the first to be born. Many more songs are in the pipeline, but we don't want to release anything until we feel it is ready. Kinda picky that way.

For those of you just discovering us, Hi. Welcome. If this site and my occasional ramblings seem a little haphazard, well, it's probably because we are... I am. I gotta admit, this is all new to me. I'm doing my best to figure it all out - keeping this site up and running all the while trying to continue to write and record new music and finance everything by working a more than full time job. For the past 25 years or so I have been a supervising sound editor for movies and TV shows. Worked on some good ones too. Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Legion to name a few. This music thing has come late for me, but I'm doing my best to catch up. I've learned I have a LOT to learn. So please be patient with us.. with me. We have a bunch of songs in different stages of completion and want to release them to the world, but, not to repeat myself - repeat myself - not before each song is ready. Hopefully they will be worth the wait.

So... who the HELL are we? Funny you should ask...

Larry and I started writing songs together a little over 5 years ago. I'm the writer, he's the musician. I'm more of the instigator while he's more of the facilitator. I write words, melodies and sing, he composes/arranges, plays and records the music. Very symbiotic. We generally work well together... generally... we are after all - BROTHERS! We've been getting some great help lately by some incredible musicians. Dave Bach has been replacing our temp drum tracks and adding his percussive touch. Dan Antunovich has acted as our co-producer, playing bass and some keyboards and helping us finish these songs. And the great Scott Page (Pink Floyd) has wailed on his saxophone on a handful of songs. So, a lot to look forward too (and a lot of work still to do to "get 'er all did!"). These guys have been a tremendous help to Larry and I, and we will need more help in the weeks/months/years (hopefully) to come.

It's all very exciting to me as I'm the newbe in all of this. You see, I wasn't a musician, a singer or a song writer until about 5-6 years ago. It was something I had dreamed about when I was young but as I got older figured it was just a fantasy. But then I reached an age where I let go of my fears and insecurities and decided to go after the many things I had always wanted to do in my life but had been too afraid to try. So I began having  art shows, and learned to scuba dive and surf. And then in 2013 I decided to go after something I wanted to do more than all the others...

It started almost as a lark. I just thought it would be fun to write some Blues songs - but not sad, depressing Blues - more of the funny and maybe a little risqué variety. Hell, at the time I didn't know what I was even going to do with them. I've been an artist and a writer since my teens, but I was never a real musician. That was Larry. I took a year of piano in high school, but I didn't keep up with it. Never really held a guitar until after I started writing these songs. And there was no way I was going to sing. I haven't been able to sing since my voice cracked (shattered) when I was 14 years old! For years I had convinced myself I would never be a song writer because (as I used to say) "I'm not a musician and I can't sing worth shit!"  But as Larry and I began to work together, everything changed. It's amazing what the mind can do when you put enormous energy and drive into it - when you want to do something so much you WILL it to happen.

And now, after 5 years of work, it is happening.

"Momma was a Beatle" is our first song and sort of represents what we're all about - borrowing styles of past musical eras that we love and rearranging them into something (hopefully) fresh and new. It will be a very broad landscape - a musical journey. Where will we go?

Stay tuned...

In the beginning... there was Blood Lake?

09/19/18

Okay, so here we go. My first blog! I'm sure a lot of you (anybody out there?) would like some background on how Larry and I started this whole shebang and are curious what our intentions are with Karmic Jesters. And those are very good things to be curious about, and possibly I'll get around to telling you all about it. But not today. Just too much going on in the NOW that I don't want to spend the necessary time looking backwards.

Speaking of looking backwards - Tomorrow (Sept. 20, 2018) Larry and I are flying to Austin, Texas to attend Fantastic Fest (a film festival celebrating Horror and Fantasy films). On Sunday, my movie "Blood Lake" will be getting it's "World Premier" screening - 30 YEARS after it was originally released on video. Seems my little "No-Budget" movie has developed a cult following and is now getting a DVD release. I will attend the screening, do a Q&A with Writer/Produce/Star Doug Barry (who I haven't seen or spoken to in almost 30 years) and then the two of us will record a running commentary for the DVD. All of this is a huge surprise for me. I'm very grateful that the movie is getting some attention, but I still don't truly understand why. You see, I always thought it was a piece of crap. It didn't live up to the quality I had hoped it could. But somehow, some way I guess it contained a little magic that has touched some people (I hope not inappropriately) and has become beloved by a very small segment of movie buffs. I hope to learn what the appeal is and why they love the movie so much. No matter what, I'm so glad I made the movie. I learned so much from the doing, and might not be where I am today if I hadn't directed Blood Lake.

If I have time I'll give updates, but most likely that will be on our Facebook site.

Well, that was fun. I might have to write another one of these soon. Until then... Peace Everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!  And to celebrate this traditional day of love, we at Karmic Jesters are releasing our latest tune - “LUV Angeles.” In honor of this new song, We've created a brand new section in the menu to explore the unplanned release of this simple and humble song. "LUV Angeles" is free to download from our MUSIC section, and please, if you LUV the song, pass it on! Share the LUV widely and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Together, maybe we can spread this sweet little lullaby around the world. Set it free!!! Let's help "LUV Angeles" do its job - to go out into the world and do good. With everyone's help, it will.

And if you want to help in the song's mission, please donate money or time to worthy causes. The choice of charity or cause is yours to make. Together we can make a difference in this world - a positive, caring and loving difference… if we choose.

We are so grateful to everyone who listens and shares. THANK YOU!!

We LUV you all!!!

It's our Birthday!!! Some call it “April Fools Day.” We call it “JESTER DAY!”

Hmmm… I think I'll write a song about it - “JESTERDAY… All our troubles seem so far away…”

Mmmmmaybe not. How about instead we release what was supposed to be our very first single (until Vlad Putin decided to invade Ukraine and piss us off and motivate me to write and re-record new lyrics). So here you go - the original version of this tune - “Stick it Up Baby!”

Be careful who you play this for. Have fun!

April 21, 2023

Our newest single "Man in the Moon" is now online and available for download.

Download responsibly.

In Joy!

October 31, 2022 - Happy Halloween (and my birthday)!!!

In celebration of both, I want to announce the release of a spooky new tune - “I Call Her Name.” This song is a little bit of a departure from our more tongue-in-cheek ditties. “I Call Her Name” is a love story - a dark and potentially dangerous love story. Turn out the lights and enjoy.

(No Hanky-Panky!)

August 20, 2022 - OOPS! We dropped our Panties!

Pink Panties is our newest track. It's a song about a guy who can't remember what happened the night before. Hmm.... seems vaguely familiar... but I can't... quite... put my finger... on...

NOPE! Not about me. Definitely NOT about me!

Just head over to our MUSIC button and you'll find our Panties and a few other items to peruse... just don't let anyone catch you! Enjoy!

July 4, 2022 - Happy Independence Day!!!

Today we dropped another single - "Bad Bad Boy" - The song is a rocking blues song that features Scott Page of Pink Floyd fame on Sax. "Bad Bad Boy" continues the irreverent fun we hope to be known for. Stay tuned - more fun to come.

April 4, 2022 - New Music - Stick it up Putin!

"Stick It Up Putin" is our newest song, and it is our "OFFICIAL" first song to be launched. Consider it it our "Hello, how do you do. We are Karmic Jesters."

Because of the recent conflict in Ukraine, I wanted to write a protest song that expresses my (and hopefully many others) feelings toward a certain maniacal head of state (who shall go unnamed, but you're free to guess) who has brutally and without any provocation invaded that beautiful, peaceful country. Larry and I were already planning to release our song "Stick it up Baby" as our first song, when it occurred to me that I could use the already recorded music of "Baby" and just rewrite and re-sing the lyrics. Thus, in the past couple of weeks "Stick It Up Putin" was born.

We still plan on releasing "Stick It Up Baby" on our upcoming album "retro-spective" now slated for a fall of 2022 release, but felt the timing was such that we needed to get this song out now while it was still relevant and useful. We are giving it away and just hope our friends and fans will share it far and wide.

We have also added a Donation Button that we encourage you to use. While the song is free to download,  we encourage you to donate what you feel is fair or generous to "World Central Kitchen" to support sustaining Ukrainian refugees either on the Karmic Jesters "Music" download tab or at: donate.wck.org

Of course all donations to any charitable organization is welcome, encouraged and appreciated.

With your help, we can "Stick It Up Putin" together!
